The Hon Mike Rann AC CNZM has over four decades of experience across politics, government, diplomacy, and business and is recognised as a global leader on climate change and renewable energy. He has significant experience as an election campaign strategist, working at national and state level in Australia and New Zealand and as an advisor to political leaders across EMEA.
From 2002 to 2011 Mike Rann was Premier and Minister of Economic Development in South Australia, and was his party’s parliamentary leader for a record 17 years. During his parliamentary career, Mike was a Minister for almost 14 years and was Climate Change Minister, the first in Australia and one of the first in the world. He was National President of the Australian Labor Party during the Prime Ministership of Kevin Rudd.
After 26 years in parliament, Mike was appointed as the Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. In 2014 he was appointed as Ambassador to Italy, San Marino, Albania and Libya, and as Permanent Representative to the UN agencies based in Rome.
Following his time in the diplomatic service, Mike was Chair of the UK charity Power of Nutrition, from 2017 - 2022. He is currently UK and Global Chair of The Climate Group, a London-headquartered not-for-profit that operates on five continents, with offices in New York, Beijing, New Delhi and Amsterdam and a Visiting Professor at the Policy Institute of King’s College London. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Australia-Canada Economic Leadership Forum.
Mike lives in Australia and Italy, and is a frequent visitor to the UK. He has been honoured by the governments of Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and Greece.
