Ella Turney
Account Manager
Ella provides strategic and digital communications support, with a focus on the education and gender equality sectors.
Prior to joining Atalanta, Ella worked as an Arabist researcher and translator in documentary production. In this position, she gained experience working in the Middle East and built up experience in the TV industry, interviewing contributors in Arabic and building strong stakeholder relationships across the region.
Ella obtained her Bachelor’s degree in French and Arabic from Durham University in 2021, and spent her year abroad in Paris and Amman where she refined her linguistic skills and ability to conduct qualitative research. She then received her Masters degree in Global Migration from University College London in 2022, where she researched the use of digital technologies by refugees in the Middle East.
Among her previous roles, Ella has gained research experience at the US Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights, where she led a campaign for the Edu for Every Child program as well as developing her communication skills at NaTakallam, which leverages the freelance digital economy to provide income to refugees.
Alongside her work, Ella is also a project leader for a foodbank in Kilburn and volunteers as a fundraising officer for a refugee charity in London. She founded Durham University’s Student Action for Refugees, which she led to win Best New Society at Durham University’s Annual Students’ Union Awards and Best Campaign at the annual National Student Action for Refugee awards. Ella is particularly interested in humanitarian and migration issues, and the role of digital communications in campaigning.
