Atalanta founder Eva Barboni issued the following statement:
I am heartbroken by the tragic news of Alisa Swidler's sudden passing. She gave me the courage to set up Atalanta and pursue my passion, and she was one of our earliest advisors and supporters.
I've never met anyone else who gave so willingly of herself without expecting anything in return. From campaigning for access to HIV treatment for adolescents around the world to combatting food poverty and advancing gender equality, Alisa was completely devoted to the mission of building a fairer society.
She was truly an inspiration, but above all, she was my friend and I will miss her terribly.
All the team at Atalanta send our heartfelt condolences to Josh and her family, as well as all her friends and colleagues.
