In an op-ed for PRWeek, Atalanta Founder & Executive Chair, Eva Barboni, highlighted the lessons that PR pros and issue-advocacy campaigners can learn from the Conservative Party leadership contest.
The first lesson she outlined is to be laser focused on your target audience. In the piece, she highlights why this is critical not only for Tory leadership contenders but also for campaigns focused on securing national-level policy reforms or advancing action at a global level through the UN system.
Second, she highlighted that “everyone likes a winner”. She demonstrated why making a clear case that you can win—either in an electoral context or an issue-advocacy campaign—is critical to securing support.
Finally, she argued that campaigns must set out a positive vision, not just say what they’re against.
Eva’s insights are drawn from her experience working as an advisor to Rory Stewart’s leadership campaign in 2019 as well as her track record leading successful electoral and issue-advocacy campaigns around the world. Read her full piece in PRWeek here or learn more about Eva and her work here.
